Our Facilities

The Nursery Facility

The Nursery Facility has been professionally designed. It is open plan, all on one level and the rooms are bright and open with a secure outdoor play area. We have toilets and sinks specifically designed for the use of the children. The rooms have been planned so that children can obtain their rest when required.

Under 2’s

Silkwood offers a happy, cheerful and safe environment for babies to ensure they enjoy a peaceful and gentle introduction to nursery life. With a minimum staff ratio of 1:3, the baby room has been designed and equipped for babies and toddlers until they are steadily mobile. We are equipped with a range of carefully selected toys and activities to ensure our babies and toddlers develop to their full potential.

A daily record sheet including details such as your baby’s sleeps, nappy changes, feeds, activities, etc. will be discussed then given to you to take home after each session so that you know exactly where to pick up from once you both arrive home.

2-3 Year Olds

The 2-3 year olds have a minimum of 1:4 staff/child ratios. During a settling in period, they will be with their key member of staff from the Baby Unit. This unit provides an introduction to large play apparatus, home/role play area, art, craft and messy play area, a quiet/book area, tabletop group and individual activities. The staff in this unit encourage the children to participate in a simple group daily routine such as meal and rest times, but are happy to cater for parent’s individual requests.

Pre-school

Children of pre-compulsory school age are provided with activities which are planned following the National Curriculum’s Desirable Outcomes including Language and Literacy, Maths and Numbers, Physical and Creative Play, Knowledge and Understanding of the world and Social and Emotional skills. These six areas provide a foundation for later achievement and will prepare young children for Key Stage 1 of their National Curriculum. These sessions are also designed to assist children to make an easier and happier transition into the Primary School environment.

We operate a philosophy of working in partnership with parents, as we believe this is fundamental to the role of a child’s development. We operate an open door policy, where parents/carers are always welcomed into the Nursery to discuss any aspects of their child’s progression to share their experiences and expertise with the children. No decisions are taken without full consultation.
